Our History
In 1959, Wilbur and Edna Schade founded Schade Builder’s Supply. Their practical, customer-first approach established the foundation for a strong, family-owned business that endures today. Early offerings were modest—lumber, plywood, windows, and carpeting—but their helpful advice and commitment to service helped the Schade name become well known in the community.
In 1976, Dan Schade Sr. and his wife Jean purchased the business from Wilbur and Edna. Dan and Jean continued the tradition of prioritizing customers, working closely with clients to provide materials and expertise needed to make every project successful. In 1982, Schade Builder’s Supply joined Progressive Affiliated Lumbermen, increasing purchasing power and enabling the store to offer a much broader range of building products.
Dan Schade Jr. acquired the business in 1999 and led further expansion by assembling a team of knowledgeable, experienced professionals. Under his leadership, Schade Builder’s Supply strengthened relationships with customers from Fremont to Catawba, stayed responsive to market trends, and maintained competitive pricing.
In 2021, Tracy and Nicole Witt purchased the business from Dan Jr. Since then, the store has expanded its product selection—adding a wide range of Diablo blades and bits—revitalized its workforce with motivated employees, and continued active support of local communities throughout the Helena, Fremont, Gibsonburg, and the wider Sandusky County region. Today, Schade Builder’s Supply remains committed to the same values of service, expertise, and community that have guided the company for more than six decades.
